The purpose of the Science Support CD  is to provide :

  1. Information and guidance on the construction, installation and development of websites that can enrich and enhance learning


  1. Information on the ways in which educational websites can contribute towards the global dimension and citizenship in our studies within our schools.

  1. Information on how the development of these websites can evolve as individuals and groups take responsibility for their own subject areas.

  1. A large database of resources for use by teachers and students.

 

What is on the CD ROM?

 

  1. Index and Contents of the CD

The index of the CD provides a number of sections (pages). Depending on your focus or interest you can start on any section. There are links to the main menu on each page. A good starting point to Online Communities would be to view one of the documents on the Presentations page


 

1.  Introduction


This is a set of presentations. All of these require MS Powerpoint, or a compatible software package. Clicking on the resource should open up the relevant presentation software on the computer

The future is here!

A presentation made for teachers at North Chadderton School. Some of the work of different departments are highlighted. Focus on e-learning, with an emphasis on providing support by use of the internet. Guidance to a whole-school approach is given.

24/7 Why bother?

A presentation which provides answers to questions asked by those teachers not yet convinced of 24/7 support .

How schools and other educational organisations can produce online communities using free, open-source software.

Installing Moodle

Moodle! is one of the most widely used e-learning software packages available. It is free to obtain, and easy to install. Yet it provides one of the most versatile and powerful facilities for successful implementation of e-learning. A whole range of learning options are available.

A website developed using Moodle to provide access to classroom resources, and individual learning and support areas for students. Some of the resources are availalbe to othr users and visitors.

A wide range of resources for use in science, for teachers and students.  Here you will find a large range of resources. The good news is that most of these resources are on the CD! This website allows images, sound files, videos, and other multimedia resources to be uploaded.

All resources have been produced by students and teachers. Permission has been granted for other teachers and students to use, modify and adapt these resources for their own non-profit educational applications. (Commercial use not allowed!)

Another gallery developed to produce free images for  educational applications. Here you will find a large range of resources.

OpenSchool Support www.openschool.org.uk/support/

Online learning support area. Mainly used by A-level Physics students at the moment.

Coolwebschool Support 1 www.coolwebschool.org/moodvery/

This is the very first Moodle site used at North Chadderton School.  Soon to be open up to guest access/viewing.

The latest support website. Now under development to provide free resources to science teachers, to assist in the development of online learning.  Many of the resources found on this CD will be available on this website.

The complete set of contents used in developing Webucate.org. Over 2000 resources here…Virtually all of the contents of the website www.webucate.org is here.

ALSO included for 2005 are documents and presentations for a major curriculum change in Science 2006. These are designed to assist schools to choose the most appropriate courses for their students. This information is provided by other sources, and full credit and acknowledgements have been given. Another useful website for more information relating to Open Source application
